Pornography for women: what gets a girl horny?

PornHub – one of the trendiest porn sites with free pornography (visited by 156 million people every month) announced lately that ladies constitute a quarter of its fans. Although the pornography is still a taboo and many also think it is a guys’ thing, we shouldn’t be really surprised by this revelation.

We all have been thought that males are more visually stimulated than female part of population. Hence why they are the ones to whom porn business is directed and they have taken pleasure in it for many years now.

“I think this is a bullshit,” tells Erika Lust (37 years), writer, director, producer and multi-award winning pornographer. Her company Lust Productions brings about $1 million per month originating from website subscriptions with a customer base that is 40% female. “Women did not like pornography videos they saw in the past,” she adds. “This doesn’t mean that we do not like any images at all.”

Personally, I also do not think that we don’t like sexual images. I believe that the main reason for women not watching as much porn as men is that porn has traditionally been done only by men and for men. Women’s tastes were completely not taken into account. The majority of us did not identified neither with image nor roles. In this type of pornography girls are treated as sex objects that exist only to satisfy every desire and fantasy of men.

If you only have a familiarity with just few free porn sites like Redtube, Youporn and Pornhub you’ll know how easy it is to run into clips of girls who are being spoke to in abusive terms, which are strangled and pushed around or simply act like bimbos. This at best, is irritating. In the worst cases, it is actually really worrying since internet pornography became sex education for youngsters.

Chloe Combi, the author of Generation Z, who spoke to hundreds of British teenagers realized that “They are imitating what they see in the porn videos. Girls are encouraged to be passive and boys aggressive.”

It was madly frustrating for Erica Lust that porn industry was “Closed to women. There were no women involved in the process of making it. And the female performers were reduced by it. Nobody was interested in our pleasure, our sexuality – only in how we can make the man come.”

Thankfully though the world of pornography, thanks to women like Erica is evolving slowly. The truth is that if we won’t tell what we like and how we like it, who’s going to do it?

“Porn videos for female does not exclude men. Most of women like men and, indeed, in my films you can see more shots of men than in conventional pornography. We can see now not only details of his masturbation, but also his face, his expression, his gestures and his intimacy. “says Erica Lust” I don’t want to just show the sex act, but also convey the excitement of it. I want to expose the intimacy, connection, passion and the moment. I do not care much for penetration or gynecological shots, but I do want to show choreography and feelings. ”

Another director of pornographic movies for women, Jennifer Lyon Bell said: “One of my challenges as a filmmaker is to show a sexual act that women can recognize as pleasant. Because of bad porn, girls think that there is something wrong with them because they are not able to reach orgasm with penetration alone. This is a misunderstanding that can be resolved with a good pornography.”

Porn videos made by women care more about the story and scenery. Women are more realistic, silicone-free, liberated and independent. They discover and embrace their sexuality without complexes. Any one of us can recognize in them.

That women make up a quarter of Pornhub’s global audience is most likely because of the internet. Barriers to pornography have gone thanks to technology. Women were always curious about it, but not many ventured out to buy magazines or rent movies XXX. Nowadays almost everyone has a personal device with internet access and that means that we are able to discreetly watch/read specific materials. This was a game changer for most women.

The success of Fifty Shades of Grey, whose buyers were 80% female, at least partially, it is due to the same thing. Download an e-book or buy the book via internet is much less awkward than to parade with it in the library.

And that’s why, according to Patrick Kwasniewski, independent pornography for females keeps growing. Kwasniewski who specialize in gender research at the University of Klagenfurt says: “The development of this branch of the industry is profiting from the internet: the more direct ways to reach consumers, easier ways of self-distribution, having a more focused target and producing highly profiled films. Whilst the mainstream industry faces loss of profits through not changing their traditional ways of production or distribution and producing very repetitive films that have more and more troubles on the market, especially when there’s so much of free porn on the internet.”

Those aged between 18 and 24 years (the generation that grew up with smartphones) account for the majority (35%) of Pornhub’s female audience, with those aged 25-34 not far behind.

What women look for when they watch porn videos?

Answering the question from the title:

The preferred type of free pornography is … lesbian porn, followed by gay porn, then teen and porn for women.

In the search for porn videos women introduced terms like lesbian porn, threesome and gangbang (we like to see a scenario with more participants), also squirt (female ejaculation).
